Yellow-Bellied Slider Turtle (Trachemys scripta scripta)

Bright, active, and full of personality, the Yellow-Bellied Slider is one of the most popular aquatic turtles in the hobby. Origin:
Native to the southeastern United States, Yellow-Bellied Sliders inhabit ponds, marshes, lakes, swamps, and slow-moving rivers with abundant basking opportunities. Most turtles available in the pet trade today are captive-bred.

Diet:
Yellow-Bellied Sliders are omnivores with dietary needs that change as they mature.

• High-quality aquatic turtle pellets as a staple

• Earthworms, crickets, mealworms, black soldier fly larvae, and other insects

• Fresh or frozen shrimp and occasional fish

• Aquatic plants such as duckweed and anacharis

• Leafy greens including romaine lettuce, dandelion greens, collard greens, and mustard greens

• Occasional vegetables such as squash or shredded carrots

Juveniles require a higher proportion of protein and should be fed daily. Adults should receive a more plant-based diet and are typically fed every other day.

Minimum Enclosure Size:

• Hatchlings: 40-gallon breeder aquarium

• Juveniles: 75 gallons

• Adult males: 75–100 gallons

• Adult females: 125 gallons or larger

A general guideline is at least 10 gallons of water per inch of shell length, though larger enclosures are always preferred.

• Water Temperature: 74–78°F (23–26°C)

• Basking Temperature: 88–95°F (31–35°C)

• Ambient Air Temperature: 75–82°F (24–28°C)

• Water pH: 6.8–7.8
